Wauwatosa Historical Society Awarded Mini-Grant from Wisconsin Historical Society
Funding to Support Lefeber Glass Plate Digitization and Exhibition Project
For Immediate Release
WAUWATOSA, Wis. (June 14, 2023) — The Wauwatosa Historical Society is pleased to announce it has been awarded a mini-grant from the Wisconsin Historical Society. As a non-profit community organization, this funding plays a vital role in enabling the Society to continue its outreach and educational programs centered on the community’s rich history. The funds will specifically support educational and outreach initiatives for the Lefeber Glass Plate Digitization and Exhibition project. Funds were allocated toward the purchase of scanner used to digitize the collection.
A dedicated team of research volunteers, led by Carol Bannen, our VP of Education, has been diligently working on digitizing and curating over 2,000 glass plate negatives capturing the people, places, and activities of early 20th-century Wauwatosa.
A sample of this extraordinary collection will be available to the public during the Firefly Art Fair, along with information on the Lefeber family and the history of photography. “I’m grateful for the work of Carol and her team for their extensive work on this new exhibit, and for their submission to receive this additional funding,” noted Amanda Saso, Executive Director.
