Theater in the Gardens – The City of Benedict della Crosse
July 29 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
The Kneeland-Walker House & Grounds and Brigata Theater present the second summer season of Theater in the Gardens. This summer, Theater in the Gardens presents encore performances of The City of Benedict della Crosse, a play about an idealistic candidate for Wisconsin State Senate whose campaign for public office leads him into a battle between power and ideals.
The Oscar-nominated screenwriter and Obie-winning playwright José Rivera calls The City of Benedict della Crosse a play about “a pivotal moment in our nation’s history when we, as a democracy, took a very dark turn in our discourse and in the way politics are conducted. It’s a disturbing origin story. Though a period piece, The City of Benedict della Crosse is filled with lessons for our own time, as the seeds sown in the past flower into truly grotesque forms today.” The play asks “the sorrowful question: how on earth did we get here?”
The play will be staged under a large tent on the Kneeland-Walker Grounds. Chairs will be available to guests, but guests are also encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Guests are also encouraged to bring picnics and beverages to enjoy before, during, and after the performances.
This is a Wauwatosa Historical Society fundraiser, with 100% of the profit to benefit the WHS!
Tickets are $25. If purchased before July 1, tickets are $20.
