Horses and Hops: The History of the Pabst Wauwatosa Stock Farm with John Eastberg
May 12, 2025 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Join us as we welcome John Eastberg for his presentation on the history of the Pabst Wauwatosa Stock Farm.
Beginning in the early 1870s, Milwaukee beer baron Captain Frederick Pabst began acquiring property in nearby Wauwatosa. The Pabst Wauwatosa Stock Farm was not only a retreat for his prized Percheron horses that drew Pabst beer wagons throughout the city, but also as a retreat for the Pabst family. Eastberg delves into the history of the Pabst family, their love of horses and how that transmitted into the early development of Wauwatosa and later the Washington Highlands.
John C. Eastberg, long-associated with the Pabst Mansion, is currently a freelance historian, continuing his research and writing on Milwaukee social and architectural topics. He has written two books, Pabst Mansion: An Illustrated History and Pabst Farms: History of a Model Farm as well as co-authoring Layton’s Legacy: A Historic American Art Collection, 1888-2013 and is currently completing a three-generational biography of one branch of the Pabst family.
