Experience History: Guided Tour of Wauwatosa Cemetery

September 25, 2024 @ 5:30 pm 6:30 pm

Cemetery Tour

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Wauwatosa Cemetery invites you to experience local Wauwatosa history by visiting the final resting places of the founders of the city.  Instantly recognizable as Wauwatosa names, the grave sites of the Fisher, Gilbert, Hart, Harwood, Hoyt, Swan, Underwood, Warren and other families will be explored while on tour of this historic and hallowed place.  Veterans of wars dating from the American Revolution can be found here along with sections purchased in the 19th century by the Lutheran Kinderheim Society for children and the Altenheim Society for adults.  Longtime Wauwatosa resident, Julie Peay, a member of the Wauwatosa Historical Society and a Wauwatosa Cemetery Trustee, will conduct the tour.

The Wauwatosa Cemetery is classified as a Heartland cemetery, meaning that it follows the natural flow of the land, is hilly with uneven ground.  Appropriate footwear should be worn.  The tour lasts approximately one hour and participants should be advised that there are no public restrooms or drinking water available at the cemetery.

Tours begin at the chapel rain or shine.
