Gilbert Girls: Three Generations of Remarkable Wauwatosa Women
March 10, 2025 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Join us as we celebrate Women’s History Month!
“Gilbert Girls: Three Generations of Remarkable Wauwatosa Women” is the story of Nancy Green Gilbert, Mary Fisher Gilbert, and Kate Evelyn Gilbert – all west side Wauwatosa residents. Nancy, the mother of ten children, was a true pioneer – one of the first to settle in Wauwatosa Township. Nancy’s daughter-in-law, Mary, came of age during Wauwatosa’s heyday – witnessing the changes as our small settlement became a village, a city, and finally, a bedroom suburb of Milwaukee. Last but certainly not least, Mary’s youngest daughter, spunky Kate Evelyn, resisted the wrecking ball when her childhood home was removed to make way for the new Mayfair Mall. Meet these three marvelous Gilbert Girls at our Speaker Series on March 10th at the Wauwatosa Public Library’s Firefly Room.
Presenter Carol Rosen is a member of WHS’s research and writing team. She received a Ph.D. in Historical Geography from UW-Milwaukee and is now retired as Professor Emeritus from the Geography Department at UW-Whitewater. Carol and her husband, Dave, live in Wauwatosa. They have two grown children, five grandchildren, and an 11-year-old rescue “pup” who keeps them very busy.
