In-Person Research
In-person research is suggested to gain the most benefit from the collections. Trained volunteers staff the WHS Research Library. They will assist you in determining materials useful for your project and provide them to you.
You will fill out an annual registration form and show a photo I.D. WHS members may use the research facilities at no charge. Non-members will pay $1.00 per day. All users pay appropriate copy and reproduction fees. Materials may not be checked out, nor are they available for loan.
Some items may be copied; other items may be too fragile or may carry copying restrictions. Photographic reprints and photocopies may be ordered for most items.
You may use pencils and computers for note-taking. Pens, cameras, and scanners are not permitted.
Research by Mail
If you are unable to visit in person, your research request should be submitted in writing. This must be accompanied by a $5.00 research fee (waived for WHS Society members) and a stamped, self-addressed envelope for a written response. Research Library volunteers will handle letters on a first-come, first-served basis. Their work will be done using materials housed at the Kneeland-Walker House; no off-site work will be done. General e-mail inquiries are welcome prior to mail requests.
